Make the best of what you have, and work it baby!
Here is something I’ve learnt over many many years as a nomadic beast. I’ve lived in so many places.. even hotel rooms for weeks on end. No matter how long or short your stay in a place.. and regardless of your immediate lack of budget, work with what you’ve got. I have been known, on occasion, to rearrange a hotel room for the duration of my stay. Needs must.
When we moved into our current home, we had very little excess budget to do what we wished. We have an enormous family bathroom with amazing light and space, and the ever sought after claw foot tub. BUT – the tiles.. oh the tiles. Dark green.. and fake marbled, with a white grout and a grey linoleum floor. What to do. The tile goes on and on, and it’s definitely not top of our decorating list. I thought long and hard about this one and decided the only thing I could do was to just embrace the green goddess and make the whole room very dark green. But I took my good time. Pondering the commitment to go SO dark. I thought the only way I could pull it off was to put a quirky little pendant light in the corner and then just squish as many gorgeous plants in there too; hanging or otherwise.
As soon as the whole room was devilishly dark I knew I’d made the right decision. It went from verging on hideous to high brow in a matter of hours. The best thing about paint – is that it’s never a permanent decision. So be bold, be adventurous and give it a try.
And despite the fact that I almost NEVER post before photos. I’m going to do it this time.. just to give a clear idea of how much can actually be accomplished with a lick of paint and a few plants. Until the time comes for the complete bathroom makeover.
